Opportunities

Eastern Bloc offers three types of internships: a technical assistantship, an administrative/curatorial assistantship, and a production assistantship. All internship programs are unpaid, last a total of 6 months and require an engagement of 7 to 10 hours per week. Applications to all three internships are accepted year round. TECHNICAL INTERN:

Responsibilities include:

  • Installation & dismantle of artworks (wall-mounted and installation-based)
  • Installation & dismantle of audio/visual equipment
  • Gallery maintenance and wall repairs
  • Gallery lighting
  • Equipment maintenance
The candidate must possess the following skills and qualities:
  • Basic knowledge of art installation techniques & principles
  • Familiarity with audiovisual equipment
  • Knowledge of wall maintenance techniques (plastering & painting)
  • Familiarity with artistic milieu
  • Punctuality & efficiency
  • Ability to work in a team
The intern will work alongside our Technical Coordinator and/or Production Coordinator and learn through a peer mentorship approach.



ADMINISTRATIVE/CURATORIAL INTERN:

Responsibilities include:
  • Web updates (blog, mailing lists, social networks)
  • Updating contact lists
  • Basic media relations
  • Assistance with grant applications and sponsorship requests
  • Gallery sitting/reception
  • Light administrative duties
The candidate must possess the following skills and qualities:
  • Familiarity with artistic milieu
  • Knowledge of office and/or design software
  • Willingness to take initiative and be project-oriented
  • Punctuality & efficiency
  • Ability to work in a team
The intern will work alongside our Artistic Director and/or Development & Outreach Coordinator and learn through a peer mentorship approach.


PRODUCTION INTERN:

Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting with production schedules
  • Assisting with project budgets
  • Seeing to the general technical/production needs of exhibits & contracts
  • General office duties
  • Occasional assistance with gallery set-ups and dismantles
The candidate must possess the following skills and qualities:
  • Basic understanding of (or keen interest in) project management
  • Familiarity with Office and project management software (Excel, Basecamp etc)
  • Familiarity with audiovisual equipment
  • Familiarity with artistic milieu
  • Punctuality & efficiency
  • Ability to work in a team
The intern will work alongside our Production Coordinator and learn through a peer mentorship approach.
