15 grants for technological support in hybrid and multidisciplinary performance practices

SIT Scènes Interactives Technologiques and Eastern Bloc, in collaboration with Troikatronix, are proud to announce 15 technological support grants for artists and practitioners in performing, multidisciplinary, and digital arts. These grants are part of the Development of Innovative and Eco-Responsible Teleperformance Technologies project, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. This project enabled us to develop tools for sending and receiving images, sounds and data in Isadora software with Zoom.US infrastructure, making remote performance (Teleperformance) easier and more accessible. In addition, we designed mobile, lightweight teleperformance control rooms and set up a new technological residency space, all controlled by the show management and multimedia interactivity software, Isadora 4.

 Who can apply?

Are you interested in exploring the connections between performing arts and digital technologies? Do you dream of creating innovative works? Are you curious to experiment with new models of interactivity, broadcasting, or remote collaboration using the latest technological advancements?

With this grant, you can explore and use creative technologies designed for stage artists, while receiving tailored technical and artistic support from senior experts in arts and technology.

This call is open to all Canadian professional emerging or mid-career artists interested in hybrid and technological approaches. Independent artists and collectives are welcome to apply. All disciplines and creative forms exploring the connections between live arts and technology are eligible.

Of the 15 selected projects, three will be offered a paid technological residency with Studio SIT and Eastern Bloc.

Teleperformance: A New Form of Creation, Broadcasting, and International Collaboration

A teleperformative work is a multi-location stage production where one or more performers interact in a physical space while connected to other locations hosting additional performers. The latest version of Isadora 4 includes a groundbreaking tool called IzzyCast, offering innovative teleperformative features: connecting and controlling different stages remotely, live broadcasting from any location, and sharing high-definition video, audio, and data between distant locations. IzzyCast also allows for real-time media control (images, sounds, lights, motors, sensors, etc.), allowing artists to collaborate remotely. This eco-friendly and inclusive way for artists to work together is revolutionizing remote co-creation.

Take advantage of our artistic and technological support to enhance your project or create an entirely new teleperformative work.

What will selected artists receive?

Each selected artist or collective will benefit from:

  • A one-year “Satellite” membership at Eastern Bloc, including access to a multifunctional space at a preferential rate.

  • A permanent professional license for Isadora 4, for two users.

  • A one-day specialized training session with Studio SIT on Isadora 4, IzzyCast, and teleperformance audiovisual equipment.

  • Three hours of personalized technological and reflective support, tailored to their project.

  • Promotion of their project via our communication channels (newsletter, social media, etc.).

The multifunctional space is equipped with advanced stage systems (sound, lighting, mapping, motion capture) and professional recording tools (microphones and cameras). This adapted space allows artists to develop, produce, and broadcast projects directly from Eastern Bloc.

How are applications evaluated?

Applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of SIT and Eastern Bloc’s technical and artistic teams.

To submit your application, please use this form.

We thank the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the City of Montreal, and PME MTL Centre-Ouest for their support.
